Are schools more likely to admit you if you put them down as first choice for NM?

It would look very odd if I applied ED for school A but wrote down school B as my first choice on my NMSF form... unless school A never sees my NMSF form because they don't participate in the NMF scholarship program. I would like to improve my chances of admission, but at the same time it seems foolish to put down a school that doesn't give NMF scholarships, especially when my first choice school is a reach and there's a good chance that I might not get in. What should I do?

I would leave the 1st choice school as "undecided" until you know you're in (or likely to be admitted) to a school that participates in NM. I doubt that "reach" schools who don't participate in NM will know what you've put down as your 1st choice.

My D is putting "undecided" and saving the postcard to mail in the spring.

Some schools require that their name be declared as First Choice by a certain date, e.g., by Feb 1, 2007. So check with your favorite school before you hold on to the post card until spring.

Thanks, CollegeBound2007 - I hadn't realized that!
