Hey there!

I was just on the housing website for Stanford, out of curiosity more than anything. From what I saw, they really. really. want you to have a room-mate. Is that compulsory, or can you choose single rooms? More precisely, as a freshman.
I';m not really a fan of the mystery roommate factor lol! Knowing them beforehand would be much less stressing, imo

Thanks a bunch!

For freshman? I’m inclined to say no and I think its a good thing too! Upperclassmen can get singles depending they’re year and they’re draw number.

I was in the same boat myself when I was coming in and I worried about not knowing my roommate but it really worked out quite amazingly. They spend a lot of time matching people up and they’re track record is quite great. It’ll be fun having a roommate, trust me. Plus there is always ways to change roommates if it comes down to it. I’ve known it happening just once in all my time here and housing quickly took care of it.

Thanks!
Well, I guess that kindof puts me at ease a little bit. I don’t know, mostly I’m worried about party-ers. I personally am not a wild party person, nor do i like alcohol (drinking age is 18 here, just to be clear haha).

But yeah, I’ll just quiet down my paranoid self and hope for a magnificent roommate. Actually, I’ll just shush, cause I’m applying for '12 and there’s no guarantee i even gete in hahaha

Just FYI, Frosoco has pseudo-singles, where you and your roommate are separated by a wall and a door.

ooh! Well, that sounds just lovely. A wall and a door is fine, I just don’t want either of us to be subjected to the others business lol

hahaha yeah you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself alisyn! And as I said don’t worry about it. The roommate questionare asks all kinds of things. If you don’t want a partier roommate you won’t get one!

Awesome! Thanks superwizard! (that is one kickass username, btw.)

I’m almost positive freshman are not allowed to have singles, except for special needs. My D lived in FroSoCo and two existing students were bumped out of singles this year for special needs. They knew in going for singles, this was a possibility with the incoming class. Stanford actually does a very good job with matching up roommates, as long as you are totally honest in your roommate survey.

Thanks! For now, I’m just gonna hope I get in

For the record, upperclassmen are guaranteed a single if they apply to draw into the right places (e.g. not the Row), or at least a two-room double. Freshman housing is “okay,” but upperclass housing is pretty nice in general.
