I’m going to become a marine biologist and am planning on going to CSU long beach or SFSU. So I was wondering if the ranking of a college will provide you with credibility when working in the field? In other words, is a specialist who graduated from UC Berkeley better than a specialist from Humboldt? Wierd question I know but I’ve been wondering it for a while
You’ll need an advanced degree to get real cred in a field like that but, Humboldt, Long Beach and SF will give you plenty of knowledge for the working world - as long as you take advantage of the opportunities presented.
Yes, you will definitely need an advanced degree. In terms of undergrad, with such a specialized major you will want to find a program that has a strong curriculum, and good opportunities (such as internships, research, etc.). The school name never hurts, but it’s alright if the school isn’t “known” for its marine bio programs, as long as you can get good experience. Also be wary of programs that are too marine bio specific (you should also have a strong background in physics, calc, stats, chemistry, etc.)
