Are sports a good ec for MIT?

So I'm another generic high 2300s, never got a b, took all ap/honors mit applicant. I'm now having second doubts after applying early on my chances considering I have been swimming for all my life, and this takes up pretty much my entire ec time. I have never done any math olympics stuff, and this worries me. Are my chances lowered since I'm not science fair/robotics/mathlete guy and instead am a varsity student athlete?

Absolutely not.

Don’t confuse correlation with causation – many MIT admits did science/math-related ECs in high school, but that doesn’t indicate that those sorts of ECs are favored by the admissions office, or that it’s difficult to get in not having done them.

About 20% of the student body at MIT plays a varsity sport, and you can bet that those people were strongly dedicated to that sport in high school. Even more students played a sport in high school, but didn’t continue playing it at the varsity level in college.

^ What Mollie said. If you want a point case, I’ll tell you that I hadn’t heard of robotics or olympiads or math competitions or whatever else people have when they apply O.o

@kevlu93 Do you want to swim in college? If yes, contact the swim coach. MIT swim team is really good and it is fun to continue to do the sport you love in college. Just a thought.
Good luck!
