Are stellar SAT scores really necessary for state schools?

I get that higher SATs MIGHT mean more scholarship money - but I haven’t seen that happen that much for state schools.

<p>Some of them do have automatic big merit scholarships for which high SAT or ACT scores are part of the qualification:
