I'm a junior at a private school in Massachusetts. I get mostly A's in advanced classes. However this year I've been taking Pre Calc A, which is considered the hardest mathematics class in the school, even more so than BC Calc. I've done pretty well, with a B+ in the first semester. Do I need to seriously boost my grade to be considered by MIT. Math has always been a favorite class because it's the class that challenges me the most. Any ideas or tips?

I can’t remember. Check the MIT website and see if “Straight A’s” in math is on their list of requirements. I did see that taking the Math SAT level I or II is a requirement.

Straight A’s in math are certainly not necessary to get in – I got in with a B+ in geometry, even. :)

Still, it’s incredibly tough to get into MIT, and you want to have the most competitive profile you can have. It’s not that a single grade in math will be the deciding factor between getting in and not getting in, but you should try to control the things you can control.
