I'm trying to pick between the colleges that I've got into right now, and am also trying to hype myself up/read more into the college I'm planning on going on.

Maybe its the college, but unfortunately a lot of the things i read on these student review websites are negative about how nobody should go to college X, there is no social life at college X, etc etc. It's really overwhelming because I'm already past the point where I can apply anywhere else...just wondering if anyone else had a better experience in the college than how it seemed in the reviews?

My thought was that maybe the people who really didn't like the school felt the need to go complain on these review sites, and that most kids don't feel the need to because they have no problem with their school.

Ask your guidance counselor for the names and email addresses of current freshman at whatever schools you applied to. Email those students and ask them one-on-one.

I think you’re right about the students with the worst experiences being the most vocal.

I don’t trust those websites because you don’t know how reliable the posters are…they could be from rival schools just causing trouble, they could be students in majors and their school isn’t particularly strong in THEIR major, or they could be from students who had a bad experience (which THEY caused), etc. A few years ago, a student posted something bad about a school he was attending (unfriendly, snobs, rich kids, etc) and transferred to another school…after attending the new school, the student began posting similar complaints. It wasn’t these schools’ fault…the student was later diagnosed with depression.

I found those websites to be mainly for unhappy students looking to complain. For me, freshman retention rates are a better judge of how people like a school.
