Wow...that is so horrible it is almost funny. It is hard to believe these things actually happen.

That's a great article. So it's not the college counselors that get the kids into the schools, it's the kids that get into the schools and then make great reputations for the college counselors. lol

My guess is it is the same with the colleges. The schools need to find students who they think will be successfull in life so the schools will have great reputations. It's not the schools turning kids into successes. The kids were already going to be sucessful.

I feel very sorry for the kid in the story. She doesn't know Stanford very well, but somehow, she just has to go to Stanford. People should just leave her alone. Who is being helped by the college admissions frenzy?

It's not the kid.

Excellent points dstark. The schools and counselors surround themselves with success they do not actually create it.

Does anyone actually know the results of the girl, I have to admit to I am very interested in her case to see if she actually follows through with applying to Stanford or not. And I would totally agree with dstark that the schools want the success to use in their favor, personally I know I was this year's cash cow with all the free press we got from my good selection of schools, but oh well at least that's over, and I never have to go back :D
