Are students Happy???

I know this may seem like a dull, absent-minded question, but are kids happy at Fordham? Do kids hang out frequently? Do people have parties? (And by parties I don't necessarily mean raging boozers) Is there school spirit? Do many kids do stuff off-campus in NYC? Thanks in advance!

Yes. They are a tight knit community and go into the city together.

Like ALL colleges, the honeymoon lasts until Thanksgiving and finals. After Christmas, people have paired off, freshmen funk can set in, and the weather changes. The TOUGH period is January, February and EARLY March. That is true at ever college in the United States.

But Fordham kids stick up for each other and make lifetime friends. The alumnae association is very vigorous and are OUTSTANDING contacts for jobs and internships, particularly in Manhattan.

I was in a SouthEastern Resort over the 4th and last week. I was approached by 7 different people when they saw my Fordham hat. One gentleman in his 60's said, "My father went to Fordham. He was Vince Lombardi's Classmate!"

The Fordham pride is alive and well.

Parties? Yes. Dances, both formal and informal. Underage underclassmen are NOT supposed to drink. Some break the rules. But its not hard to find friends who DONT drink, but still enjoy a very good time. The problem is more about getting enough sleep, than it is about finding a good time.

School spirit? Yes, and its huge. It grows on you. And its growing STRONGER as Fordham sports gain national recognition. Patriot League Champs in Division I-AA and made the playoffs, losing to UMass. UMass lost to eventual National Champion Appalachian State. The same team that beat Michigan last year.

SEVERAL Fordham baseball players have been drafted by the Major Leagues in the past three years.

Going into Manhattan is a REGULAR occurance, be it for shopping, seeing shows, seeing sports at MSG, eating out, going to St. Patricks Cathedral for Mass. Museum hopping. Whatever. They go in GROUPS often. Its GREAT fun! The Metro North Trains stop LITERALLY at the Fordham Gate and they are CLEAN and SAFE and run until 120am. Fordham RamVans run between the Lincoln Center Campus and Rose Hill even later.

At EVERY college there are RAGING boozers and immoral people. Trust me. The STORIES I heard this year from parents of kids at PRESTIGIOUS colleges would shock people. Its sad but true. But Fordham is NOT a party college. They are out there and they usually wash out of freshmen year before second semester.

Fordham is a school that balances academics, good times, meeting friends, being INVOLVED in activities and internships etc.

Some kids who considered transferring to Georgetown or Notre Dame or other BIG schools later changed their minds last year.....why? Camaraderie, looking at the big picture, and being realists....life is NOT always greener in the other pasture.

Fordham offers a classic college campus experience, but at the same time offers the best of New York City. Who can match that?

Wow, thanks for the thorough response! That helped significantly!

yea when i visited fordham i went with a current student i know who goes there and we talked to about 50 current students and not one of them said they didnt like it. They were all freindly and seemed to be a part of a big group of friends.

I am glad I could help, Simpson. Fordham is just a gem of a school.
