Based on NYU's academic calendar, classes begin on Sept. 7 and end on December 23 for the Fall semester 2010.

Then it is Christmas break from December 24 to January 19, when spring semester 2011 begins.

During the 27 day break period, are students asked to leave the dorms? Are there options for students to stay in the dorms (for out of state and international students?). If so, how much would the housing cost?

Thanks

shuffleace, It is evolving again. I guess we are on real time.

There was a previous thread about this. You can stay from 8/29/10 through all the breaks
until your last final (or someone noted, through the official Spring 2011 Final day, which can be later than your own final schedule). Just be aware there are no meals offered during any of the breaks (not sure about thanksgiving, but I think it applies then too).

No extra room fees are charged for staying during the breaks.

Yea I think we are on real time haha

Thanks for the input again evolving =)

no meals on thanksgiving either. Dining halls typically close down the day before break (plan accordingly), and reopen on a staggered schedule. they are usually all open by dinner of the first day back.

OH OH OH! I think the Dunkin Donuts is operational during thanksgiving break.

oh damn no dining halls during break? Does that mean I have to walk out in the freezing snow to get rice toppings?

To compensate for the dining staff having the weekend off, all residential hall councils hold their own Thanksgiving dinner in the res halls. It’s a nice way for people who are staying in NY over the minibreak to still get a meal with all the trimmings, while meeting other people in the building.

Not to worry! You live in Manhattan. EVERY RESTAURANT DELIVERS FOR FREE!!! (Practically). This is legit the only city in the world where you can get zagat/michelin rated restaurants delivering to your dorm. Last year, me and some friends all got Filet Mignon delivered from a highly rated restaurant in the village one night of break, and got AMAZING cheap $8 chinese food that tasted like heaven delivered the next night, when it was snowing. Sesame chicken and pork fried rice in the midst of a snow storm (or aftermath of it)? Solid.

Nope, you’re not kicked out. I stayed at NYU during all the breaks – thanksgiving, winter, spring. The only issue is that the dining halls are closed. If you live in third north, this isn’t a problem, as we have kitchens in our apartments.

I love NYU over breaks! It’s always so peaceful.
