Are students REQUIRED to use "lockdown browser" for the APs next week?

There seems to be a lot of confusing about the “lockdown browser” and my dd’s teachers are sending messages asking them to download this but my dd says that if you try to open the test on it, it does not work. It seems to be something teachers can use in their classrooms to give practice tests but I am not clear on whether students taking the at-home AP tests this year are also expected to do this. dd says that since they are expected to type in work documents, take pictures of their answers, scan in and upload they actually CANNOT do all this using the lockdown browser.

I could not find clear instructions from the college board either.

The lockdown browser is not required for the AP exams. Since the exam is open note (including online resources) and students are allowed to type their essays, there’s no way they could require the lockdown browser.
