Are Talent Search ACT/SAT scores relevant to colleges

Hi,

Some of the colleges my S is applying to say they want ALL his test scores. He took his first ACT as an 11yo for a Talent Search. While it is not a bad score, I hardly think it is relevant six years later. Do I really need to send them that one too? He has two other ones, one from 2009 and one from 2012.

We didn’t bother, they expunge scores from before high school from the system. I don’t think anyone thought about middle school scores when they said “all the scores”.

The only results colleges want are ones from his high school years. You may know this, but your post isn’t clear, so I’ll mention that you don’t send the scores yourself. You’ll need to order them to be sent through the testing agency online. If you look in his online account, you’ll see his old test result has been purged and isn’t available for sending. Your S should not self-report that old test result at all on his college apps.

I know ACT sends them but that old score is still there on his account oddly enough. I just want to be upfront and not seem like we are hiding anything by not sending a score. I do agree they probably weren’t thinking pre-high school scores.

Thanks for mentioning the not self-reporting part on the Common App. That was another head scratcher, but then there were only two spots for scores so we used the two most recent.

AFAIK my S’s 7th grade SAT scores weren’t sent to any colleges. You might want to contact the ACT people and find out why they still show up on your kid’s account.

If they are accidentally sent, I wouldn’t worry at all. Colleges can tell from the test date that your son was young when he took the test.

D’s from 8th grade Talent Search also show on her account and she’s currently a jr.

syrrstess: is this SAT or ACT? It appears there may be a difference.

They only want the scores taken during high school.

Yes, the ACT scores stay on there. But we were told specifically at an information session at a college where all scores are required that those from talent searches were not included in that requirement.

ETA: I believe the SAT is different. Those scores from 7th grade testing get expunged UNLESS you request in writing that they remain on there.
