For my college SUNY Plattsburgh, i was accepted to the college and business program for finance as my major. I always liked the idea of finance, like investing and being a banker and all that good stuff. A lot of people are pushing me to do accounting because the job market is great. I wouldn't mind doing accounting but finance is really what i want to do and it interests me, i just dont want to get out of college and be able to do nothing with the degree. So my question is how are the jobs for finance? easy, hard to find? and would you reccomend accounting or finance?
thanks everyone

Nearly every finance job can be done with an accounting background.

What those people probably meant is that its easier to get a job in accounting (including Big 4) than in a front-office finance role (IBD, S&T, etc). There are plenty of fields in finance, however, that are as competitive or less competitive than accounting. Examples include risk management, equity research, and mutual funds.

Then study finance. If you have a strong academic interest which gives you good career prospects (as finance does), there’s no reason not to pursue it.

Depends on the job you’re looking for. There are an enormous number of different jobs and firms which could all fit under the broad term “finance.” As mentioned above, front-office roles are extremely difficult to get. Middle and back office roles are much easier to obtain, though they’re still competitive to a certain degree.
