I'm going to do work study & I will try to get a job too. I know it's a lot of work and stuff but I am DESPERATE to get money! When can I start applying for campus jobs? Are the jobs at UCR competitive??

I second her question

I’m also going to be doing work study on campus. I know that there are job fairs for work study students and they’ll send out things saying when they are. I don’t know how competitive it is but you apply there at the job fair.

yea im planning to get a job on campus as well

Work-study jobs on campus are like regular jobs in the sense that you’ll need to prepare a resume and interview in most cases. There will always be competition. You can also do work-study with an off-campus job.

Jobs (and internships) are usually posted up through at SCOTJobs, but I don’t think any are posted during the summer.

Your eligibility for work-study is determined by your financial need.

If you have work study, you shouldn’t have a problem getting a job. Its harder for people who don’t have work study, especially w/ all the budget cuts.

The colleges prefer ppl with work study since the the fed reimburses them for the 10 hours a week you work

What kind of jobs are available on campus? Are they like labor jobs such as cleaning dorms and stuff?

Not that I know of… the dirtiest you’ll get cleaning is at the dinning halls. a lot of the workstudy jobs are at the different departments where you do office work and such. sadly all of our first year students end up working for dinning…

what about the surrounding areas? like the stores and restaurants right outside of campus. Do most ucr students work there?

haha yeah, you’ll find ucr students working everywhere you go… last night we hit up Yard House for happy hour and our server was a UCR student. as for workstudy, i believe there are some off-campus locations, but oncampus is much more convenient for firstyears, esp if you live on campus.
