Are the pre-requisite grades essential to medical school admissions?

Hi guys, I've been wonder how important it is to get that top A in those pre-requisite courses that are required by all med. schools. I'm guessing it would be hard to get the A in lots of general science classes b/c of the curved grading? My friend over at BYU, I think he's a junior right now, says that in his opinion the courses more specifically tailored towards one's major are easier to obtain better grades in than those pre-requisite courses b/c of the vast difference in the number of students taking those classes.

Also I was thinking of majoring in molecular biology so as long as my overall GPA is decent, I'm guessing getting a B here and there in the pre-requisites wouldn't be bad?

*I think i'm gonna end up at UCI, UCSD

The average GPA of matriculants is 3.6. That means you receive a few more A's than B's.

Being a CA resident in a large school that generally doesn't send a high proportion of its kids to selective med schools will mean that GPA probably ought to be higher than average, however.

yea pre-reqs are really important. especially if you're a non-science major.
