Are the SATs hard?

I've heard gruesome stories about the SAT, some people say it's the hardest test they've taken in their entire lives, while others say that it wasn't that bad, and they scored over 1700 on it.

Right now, I have a 4.0 GPA (unweighted), and my best subjects are english, history, and art. I'm horrible at any science-related courses, and I'm in IB.

Are there any IB graduates that want to give me their oppinion on the SATs? I heard that they have vocabulary and math and writing, but is it really as difficult as people say? Or is it harder than it seems?

I'm trying to prepare as much as possible.

Also, what is an 'average' score that students score in the SATs? Is it in the 1300-1700 range?

Because I've been on a certain forum lately, and it's kind of a site where parents brag about their kids getting into an ivy school or such. It always goes something like this:

"Oh, my daughter/son just got accepted into (ivy league school)! He/She was on the swim team, they were the captain of the lacrosse team, volunteered for 400+ hours total, started the scholastic club at their school, they also had a 3.95 GPA and scored a perfect 2400 on their SAT! I'm so proud of them!"

I made that up, and so it was a bit sarcastic, but has anyone ever had a daughter/friend/upperclassman who was like this? It's so frustrating! It makes everything I do seem so lame, and also 2400 on their SATs? Is that even possible?? O_O

A perfect score is absolutely possible. For average scores and the like see here: [SAT Data Tables](SAT Suite of Assessments - College Board Research)

You can study for the SAT, and if you are prepared, then no the test is not hard. Take some practice tests and see what you think. There is no science portion of the SAT I (The sciences are subject tests).

I’m sure you will be fine. Don’t let CC dishearten you in any way! Good luck : )
