Are the standards higher for Asians?

Are they?

maybe..i dunno...your race is steroetyped as the really smart nerds who do nothing but study....so yes. not that this stereotype is true...but commonly accepted. Asains continuously do better in school (IN GENERAL) and get stellar ACT's and SAT's. If you are asain, it's harder to get into top schools like the IVIEs because 2/3 of the applicant pool are perfectly scoring Asians. I think they are. but thats only my opinion.

I am Asian and I got a 1630 on the SAT :(

standards aren't necessarily HIGHER. if you happen to be a dull candidate (for example for ivies: SAT scores around 2000-2150ish, mediocre extracurriculars, essays not stellar) you will get rejected no matter what your race. I'd say a lot of asians fit this category because while they have OK Test scores (face it, not every asian gets the 2300+) they don't usually have amazing extracurriculars and essays. we do tend to hear about the amazing ones more on CC and in general though...they fit our idea of the stereotype.

Do we really need to start with this all over again?
I must have seen this topic crop up a gazillion times now...

Agreed. {10 Char}

wow i just ranted about this somewhere else

it really doesn't matter.. cause if there is you can't really do anything about it .. i'm asian and im just gonna try my best and cross my fingers

i think that's all anybody can really do

asians have always had a special drive, no matter what you'll find away to be successful, dont worry...
