I guess I am asking about both cigarettes and pot. I read a review (a couple years old) from a New College student that said there were a lot of cigarette smokers there, and with it's hippie reputation, one wonders about the prevalence of pot smokers.
Is smoking (cigarettes) still allowed and common on campus and in the dorm areas?

It's a given that there is pot smoking happening at any college, so it's more the time and place that I wonder about. Is it so pervasive that you are pretty much in a cloud of smoke anytime there is a gathering, or more just here and there? I also read that a large percentage (39%) of New College students don't drink. What about the percentages for smokers?

I’ve visited twice and have friends that attend. Plenty of cigarette smoking goes on around campus. I don’t think there are any outdoor restrictions, as students were smoking in the Pei courtyards, etc. It’s not obnoxious but it is noticeable. I didn’t see a crazy amount of cigarette butts everywhere though, so that’s good. As to marijuana, it’s not pervasive but it is there, just like any other college. I saw a bong sitting on a balcony when I was on the tour (lol) and from what my friends say the administration and campus police are fairly lax on drug use. There hasn’t been anything in the way of drug raids or room searches happening. As always, there are people that smoke weed and people that don’t, it’s not universal. You certainly won’t be pressured to do something that you don’t want to do.
