Are there any cons to going ED?

Hi-

If my D gets into W&M she definitely wants to attend. Can anyone think of any reason a solid in-stater (not from Northern Virginia) shouldn't apply ED? Any downsides?

Thanks!

If you know that you can afford the full cost of tuition, then no, not really.

I will throw in a couple of points just to ponder.
a) If you are a good enuf student to get into W&M, then mabe you have a shot at Harvard or Yale. What if you can get in there - remember that in these 2 schools you can study with a very low total cost outlay unless you are very rich !!

b) There are academic results (AP exams, SAT2s) that you are expecting between November and January which is not available during the ED application time - and those results better your overall app.

My son got in RD from NoVa - class of 13 - loves it there.

If W&M is your D’s #1 choice and there is no need to compare financial aid/scholarship packages, there is no reason not to apply ED. W&M is receptive to ED applicants and appreciates their enthusiasm for the school. If nothing else, your D will know where she stands come December!

Not having to deal with the stress of waiting till April can be wonderful. Makes senior year much more enjoyable and relaxing.
