are there any differences between the 2 admitted students weekends?

Hi, would anyone have any experience regarding the accepted students weekends (this year on 4/5 and 4/12 respectively)? I’m guessing they’re both pretty similar. Trying to decide which weekend to attend. Thanks.

I doubt that there is any difference, we took our DD on the second weekend last year and it seemed the itinerary was identical to the first.

I believe they are the same. A handful of students are also invited to the Destination UChicago event as well. Students invited to Destination UChicago arrive one day earlier and explore the city among other events.

@uofcparent my daughter attended the first weekend last year and those of us on CC didn’t find any difference between the two events. They offer two different dates just to make sure everyone who wants to attend is able to do so and also probably because they get several hundred families at each one and space can get a bit tight in Rockefeller Chapel! My daughter really enjoyed her weekend last year - attended a Kant seminar and toured the Reg. and Mansueto. They let you choose among various activities including the opportunity to sit in on a course. The more popular courses will fill quickly but I think they spread them out over two days so be sure to check what’s available on Day 2 as well before choosing.

If my DS has already attended an overnight, will we still want to attend one of the weekends in April?

Ha…actually DD…

Do they stay in the dorms? The registration form was asking how many people would be attending with him - I thought my daughter and I would fly out with him but we would explore Chicago while he is doing his “thing”. Not sure if he should list three people or just himself? The registration form doesn’t give much information.

Last year they stayed in the dorms and both student and parent had to sign a form agreeing that they understood the rules of behavior etc. I can’t remember exactly but my kid might have brought a sleeping bag. They will distribute a “to bring” list to the registrants so no worries about those details at this time. Parents (and other family members?) are welcome to attend a portion of the event but then break away from their student for the overnight (which, I think, includes dinner and breakfast the next day). It’s very possible some kids do this completely on their own so if you want to drop your son off for a portion or even most of it that should be ok. I think my husband had business in Chicago so my daughter was on her own for part of the two-day event and that was just fine with her

They are pretty much the same. Trick is to schedule around other schools’ visits that she might want to go to as well.

They should bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. They can leave it at the reception area. Typically they will sleep on the floor in their hosts room, my son lucked out and his host had an air mattress.

My son did the entire event on his own (he preferred it that way), we ate lunch with him once I believe. It is a great time to have the students meet others and form chat groups on social media.

This is a useful discussion–thanks. Has the specific admission notification date been made public?
