If it makes you feel better Bush went to Yale…

…Because of his connections alone.

To say there is no correlation between intelligence and academic performance is very, very dumb.

I think that most colleges have people who could be classified as genius types, depending on what your connotation of the word “genius” is. Like other top schools, Cornell definitely has its share, but also has a larger group of quite intelligent students who are probably not geniuses. I definitely wouldn’t call myself a genius, as I wouldn’t call most students at Cornell geniuses.

I’m not sure what you mean by “genius type,” but I know that one of the top 10 Intel finalists this year (#5, I believe) is going to Cornell (he got in Early Decision).

Also, in response to your other question, I’m an incoming freshman at Cornell with a 2380 and 20 AP tests after this year (all 5’s so far), but not valedictorian/salutatorian (although I have the same GPA as them).

^
20? That’s insane…

Sort of off-topic here, but based on the people I’ve met online so far, there seems to be a HUGE gap in academic ability. I’ve met some people who are intelligent to the point of it being scary, and yet there are also kids who seem to do nothing but party and drink alcohol, and I question how they even got in… It’s pretty strange.

What are you basing that off of? The Facebook group?

Saugus - I don’t know how you know that either, but I can guarantee you’d be making the same observation about Princeton students. I’ve stared at more than a few people from those top schools and simply said to myself, “How?”

Welcome to college. The myth is fading and the reality is setting in.

^
There’s a Facebook group and a roommate search group. I’m not even exaggerating. Some of these kids come across as complete idiots.

“Rage so hard!!! Drinking is awesome! U down bro!?”

“420 all the way!”

Etc. Stuff you would see in high school.

Really? There are really those types at HYP? Those schools reject most Valedictorians; how could total idiots get in THERE?

… Oh my god this kid is doing it again. It’s like he COMPLETELY forgets everything that has been posted even though he has been on CC for so long.

Rich mofos

Hooked people

People who have a social life

You’d be surprised how academically intelligent some partiers are. In college, you find people who are not just amazing in terms of grades but in terms of having lives as well (even though that might not be your definition of “having a life” and i can sympathize with that, it’s how some kids find balance in their lives). It’s simply part of college life and getting to know people is an important part of college.

^
I know that; I just never believed it. Hooks can’t possibly help THAT much, especially mere legacies. Some of those kids don’t even look like legacies.

And yeah, there are light/social partiers who are highly intelligent, but I’m not referring to them. I’m talking about the drunken idiot types-- some of them also come across as kind of jock-like, so maybe they’re recruited athletes?

But I thought recruited athletes had to be smart as well…

Recruited athletes really do not have to be smart at all. However, as for jocks, back in high school most jocks weren’t very smart. But here a good number of them are.

Oh. So the dumb people are almost exclusively recruited athletes then? That makes sense…

I’m going to Michigan, so I probably have nothing to do here, but come on man, are you really bashing on Cornell, the school you will be attending. Cornellians, sorry for intruding. lol

I mean come on man, grow up. Prestige only gets you so far… Ambition and being driven gets you much further.

Before you call me stupid for attending Michigan (over HYP, Cornell and others) just listen for a second… I have a 2400 SAT, 5s on 13 AP exams, and I’ve co-authored two textbooks (one of which y’all use in Ithaca, the second will be in print in September) as well as two novels. By all means, I’ve done a lot (no self-flattery intended). But my intellectual capacity is not measured by WHERE I go to college but rather by what I do once in college.

So stop being “upset” over admissions. What’s done is done. Be happy that you are going to a Top 20 university worldwide by reputation (TIME ranking 2012). You have a great opportunity, and many people would love to trade places with you, I’m sure.

Be happy. Embrace Cornell. I’m sure you will love it there. And please, grow up.

Thanks.

PS: still bummed you guys beat us in the Frozen Four… haha. Maybe we’ll get you guys next time. Y’all should cheer for Michigan when we play Alabama. and I look forward to visiting Ithaca for the first time when I visit friends next fall.

Go Blue! And go Big Red I guess ;)

^I was going to call bs on that when you say co-authored some textbooks, but then I realized you mean your parents wrote it and decided to put your name down. Okay. More believable.

rolls eyes

People make up stats on this board all the time. I swear there’s more people here that claim 2400 single setting SATs or 15 AP tests then there are people who achieve these things in an entire year.

^^
LOL. Owned…

ajhhs - I guess your stats were a fabrication but are the books as well? That is incredibly impressive if not. Writing a book usually takes years of work and research (especially an entire textbook). Doing 4 before graduating high school is mind boggling.

Is Colene right that your name was just added to others’ work or did you actually play a significant role in the final product?
