Are there classes on the day before Thanksgiving?

I am an incoming freshmen so I am kinda confused about this...
Mom just purchased flight tickets for me on November 25th, the day before Thanksgiving. The time is early afternoon so it will interfere with my classes if there are classes that day.

I was wondering that, too! I booked my daughters flight Wed afternoon and she has classes until 5 on Wednesdays.

Yes, there are classes, but it’s not a big deal if you miss them.

not a big deal to miss class? O.o

It isn’t, many of the profs cancel their classes…DS didn’t have any classes, so he was home by Tuesday afternoon, and even by then the dorms were clearing out.

This has been an issue for us the past two years. DS’s classes were never canceled so I booked him on a 7pm train home on Wednesday night the past two years. Both times, the prof canceled class the day before and DS scrambled to try to catch an earlier train which was by then fully booked. Frustrating!

P.S. for incoming frosh, the university runs a shuttle bus from Stamp Union up to NYC, stopping also at Metropark in New Jersey, on the day before Thanksgiving and the last day of final exams in December. It’s a real bargain so if this would help you, look for notices at: [Department of Transportation Services - University of Maryland](http://www.transportation.umd.edu/alt_trans/ny_bus.html)

So if I have one class (10-10:50) on wednesdays, do you think I should go ahead and book a flight on tuesday evening??

Also, does UMd have a shuttle service to BWI?

UMD doesn’t have personal shuttle to BWI, but if you take the metro to Greenbelt (1 stop), you can hop on the B30 metro bus right to the terminal (total cost of trip is about $5-6)

This past year there was a free shuttle from UMD to BWI during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring break. My son used it during Spring break. I think the shuttle ran every 2 hours.

^Cool, I didn’tk now about that.

rschlegel240…you’re probably OK to miss it, but it will be your call when it gets closer. Last year, D’s professors cancelled all her classes (but one) that day. She skipped it.
