my guidance counsellor told me she's heard there isn't great housing opportunities at jhu... like a lot of people have to live in apartments. is this true?

I don't know what that means. Freshmen and sophomores are guaranteed housing. The facilities, especially Charles Commons, are very nice. Your counselor has heard wrong.

Yeah - housing is nice @ JHU.

Apartments? Uh, there are apartments for upperclassmen, but usually people choose to live in those instead of off-campus.

Actually, the housing here is very nice. :3 It's even better for sophomores, but I'm happy with what I have right now.

A lot of juniors/seniors live in off-campus apartments but that's because they choose to do, not because they're forced to do so. Upperclassmen housing is avaliable for those who are interested.

Isn't it somewhat limited?

The honest reply about upperclassmen housing is that Hopkins does not have enough housing if EVERY SINGLE upperclassmen wanted to live on campus. However, they do have enough housing for EVERY SINGLE freshman and sophomore (in fact, you have to live in university housing during your first 2 years unless you're within a 10-or so- mile radius). Don't quote me on the miles thing, I'm not sure of the exact numbers. So if your question is "will every single upperclassman be able to live on campus" the answer is a big no. However, if you're asking "will I be able to live on campus if I wanted to as an upperclassman" then the answer is most likely. I know some people who wanted to live on campus their junior year but wasn't able to because all the housing was filled up. But, it's not hard to find housing off campus, you won't have to travel to the next county to find housing. Also, many people prefer to live off campus. By the time you're a senior, trust me...you won't want to live in university housing along with sophomores/ (and in some cases) juniors.

Also, many "off-campus" housing options are actually closer to campus than "on-campus" choices. I lived in university owned apartments last year which were a block east of campus; this year, I'm in a private apartment that's directly across the street from campus.

All freshmen are required to stay in Wolman. Sophs in Charles Commons. Juniors and Seniors choose between the two, other dorms, and off campus housing through JHU.

"All freshmen are required to stay in Wolman. Sophs in Charles Commons. "

You forgot AMR I, AMR II, A&B Building, & Homewood. You're not REQUIRED to stay at any one particular dorm.
