I have recently accepted my offer of admission to Cal Poly SLO. I am majoring in electrical engineering. I have been thinking about which dorm to choose. I like that the North Mountain dorms are larger, but I was curious if it is mostly a freshmen dorm. I am a girl and want to know if there are many freshmen engineering girls in these dorms as well. I want to have the social aspect of college and be able to focus on my academics. I am the kind of person who is down to play call of duty or dominion as well as go to parties and dance. I love to go dancing! I also love to hike too! Please let me know if the North Mountain dorms would be a good fit for me. Thank you so much!

I was just at Cal Poly last week on a housing tour with my S and we went by the N. Mtn dorms on our own after the tour and the corner room was open and the kids said hi and chatted with us - nicest kids ever! The room we were in was a triple with 3 girls, one in materials engineering and the other one there at the time was non-engineering. So I can say there are at least 3 girls there. The red bricks - Santa Lucia is an engineering dorm and has a traditional all girls side and certainly seems more social cause of the set up but I would still think pretty studious given the focus of engineering. The building divides in half with one side boys the other girls. More traditional set up but certainly girls there too.

Yes, there are probably around an equal amount of guys and girls.

There will be a lot of girls in North Mountain. There will be some girls who are not in engineering and chose a different dorm as their first choice but ended up being put into North Mountain to create more space and make it more equal.

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to see if any girls in engineering wound up picking North Mountain as a top dorm choice. My daughter will be attending in the fall for software engineering and selected North Mountain #1 for the room size, location, and setup. Most of the roommate activity on the CP FB page is around the bricks/Yosemite. Just curious if any freshman girls were interested in North Mountain and still looking for roommates.

^floridabridget… I have an incoming freshman majoring in industrial engineering. She prefers Santa Lucia as her first choice over North Mountain after seeing it in person. Didn’t mind the shared bath situation. She definitely did not like the layout, motel style of North Mountain (second choice) when seeing it over Open House but she is keeping it as her second choice. Likely she will wing it and see who she ends up with rather than finding someone in advance via CC or Facebook or similar. Not sure if we agree but letting her decide on this aspect. Good luck!
