Are there placement exams?

All of my friends going to other colleges are talking about having to take their placement exams for math and stuff. Does Cornell have placement exams? 'Cause I haven't heard anything about it

Yes, they do for some subjects, and I believe they’re called CASE exams.

They are offered during orientation week in various subjects. Do a search for placement and your college.

For instance:

[Cornell Engineering: Introduction to Computing](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/resources/advising/orientation/course-selection/introduction-to-computing.cfm)

[Credit and Placement](http://as.cornell.edu/information/orientation/credit.cfm)

At least in CAS, they don’t seem to worry about pre-requisite courses as much as what I’m used to at other schools. You can sign up for upper level courses, if you feel you are ready (and your advisor agrees). It doesn’t seem like the system prevents you from doing that.
