Also, are there any plazas or suites that are as social as res halls?

There are no private bath doubles in the halls. Honestly, that’s actually one of the best parts of a hall: the community bathroom. You’ll meet a lot of people in there going in/out/morning/etc. Just make sure to get shower slippers.

Plaza’s and suites are definitely not as social as resident halls. You’ll hear stories of some social floors on plazas, but honestly it can’t compare to how lively a usual floor on a hall is (I lived in the halls for 2 years…loved both times). What makes hall’s so social is that the floors have double the students than a plaza (100+), the bathrooms, and the fact that many are filled with freshman. I was lucky enough to live in dykstra my freshman year so the layout also made the hall social (dykstra = crappiest/oldest dorm, but the room’s in the hall face each other so its extremely social)

Anyway, nowadays all the halls are beautiful since they’ve all been renovated (dykstra is FINALLY being closed to renovate). I highly recommend living in a hall at least as a freshman…its a great, social experience that makes freshman year even better. I’ve made many close friends from my floor and met numerous people of different majors/backgrounds I wouldn’t normally meet in my classes.

Plazas and Suites are nice, but now that the halls are renovated, the difference is not that drastic. Everyone has different comfort zones, but I know MANY people who choose plaza’s/suites and came over to my floor all the time since their place was antisocial. Plazas have less people and private baths…so its much easier for people to stay in their room all day.

Not sure if you’ve visited yet, but make sure you check out all 3 if you haven’t. Good Luck!

And as someone that tends to be somewhat antisocial if given the chance, I think I kind of regret never being in a hall. I’ve never been able to get to know others on the floor well. It really is too easy to seal yourself off in your room all the time.
