I'm considering transferring to Mac from a historically black university. I certainly get that as a liberal arts college in Minnesota, Mac (for obvious reasons) wouldn't appeal/be accessible to people of color, but is the student body really as homogeneous and white as many people make it seem? Even if that's the case, does such a culture lacking in diversity create a hostile culture for minorities? I'd love it if a current/recent alum could speak to the second issue specifically.

I’m not an alum (just an interested parent) but maybe you should pose your question to Kofi Annan, arguably Mac’s most famous alumnus! ;-)

Seriously, Mac is known for its multicultural student body. While, as with most LACs, there may not be a large contingent of African-American students on campus, I’m guessing there will be a lot of kids of color, along with white kids who likely chose Mac in part for the diversity of its student body.

Also, I would imagine the office is closed until after the New Year, but maybe shoot these folks an email? [Multicultural Life - Macalester College](Lealtad-Suzuki Center for Social Justice - Macalester College)
