Are there scholarships out there for senoirs who do not demonstrate financial need????

I really need help because I live with my mom and she makes 50,000 a year…According to most scholarships i do not demonstrate financial need. But we don’t receive any government assistance hence we are not technically “rich” as one might think. She barely saves any money after she pays all the house bills and and electricity and other bills…I really need money for college. Please help me out.
I want to go to Syracuse and thats about 59,000 a year…Thanks in advance.

Syracuse does not guarantee to meet the full need for all accepted students. Even with a lower family contribution, you are not likely to get full funding to attend this school. You certainly can apply and also apply for financial aid…and see…but have another plan if the money is not forthcoming.

I hope you have options on your application list that have costs that do NOT exceed your mom’s annual income.

And really, there are some schools where you would get very good need based aid.

You don’t mention your dad, but syracuse is a school that also uses the Profile, and the non- custodial parent is expected to complete that unless they are no longer alive.

Can your dad contribute to your college costs?

Have you applied to any financial safeties?

What are your stats?

Have you met with your guidance counselor for assistance in finding/applying to scholarships?

@tripass216

You could look at colleges where you may qualify for merit aid which are pinned at the top of this forum

Do you have a green card or are you an int’l? Your stats are modest since you’ve only been here a couple of years and English has been a struggle for you.

@thumper1‌ my dad doesnt live in the united states

It doesn’t matter if your dad doesn’t live in the US. You’ve applied to Cornell and Syracuse. Cornell, and likely Syracuse, requires the financial info of the non-custodial parent…even if he lives in another country.

Did you fill out CSS Profile yet?

@Madison85‌ 1. My dad doesnt live inthe USA

                    2. What are those?

                       These are my stats..I applied to Yale university and I have an interview next week.

                    4.Yeah. I have applied to a few scholarships with her help. Most of which I sometimes do not meet all the requirements..But I apply anyway.

                  5. Thank You for the help

@mom2collegekids‌ I am a U.S citizen lol. Im still working on my skills. Do you think I have a shot for a full scholarship?
Or i should just take out loans?

@mom2collegekids‌ No i havent im still waitng for the 2014 statement( the thing with all the tax information on it)

Tri pass…it doesn’t matter if your dad lives on the moon. If a school requires information from your non-custodial parent, you will need to get it done…or you will need to explain the extenuating circumstances why you cannot. And living in another country doesn’t matter. Waivers are granted for those with no way of contacting a parent…usually because they are in jail, or are not alive…or have never been in the picture. You need to have documentation to,support this.

However, if your dad doesn’t have much for earnings, this weint matter much as far as financial,aid goes.

But take some time to look on your college websites to see what they require for financial aid application submissions!

With that income, you show tremendous need. You likely will not be able to afford more than $10,000 per year at Syracuse. So it would be a really bad idea to take out $40,000 in private loans each year with your mom. Do the CSS profile. They allow you to make estimations.

@tripass216‌

Any idea what your dad’s income is? Or, what is his occupation?

A ‘financial safety’ is a school that you can get admitted to and easily afford. For some people, that means living at home and attending community college. Do you have any colleges nearby that you can commute to?
