white female hs junior... first try SAT 2180 cr750 m750 w680 (i plan on retaking and bumping up writing) good grades, v.hard classes, good ec's.....

i want a college either in a city or very close to one - either in southern california or in a city on the east coast.
size doesn't matter, but preferably 5k-10k.
good biology program, would love club field hockey, school spirit is preferred.
generally pretty campus and happy students, good balance between work & party.
do my colleges fit/any to add?

safeties: northeastern, udel, bu, umar
matches: wake forest, gwu, ucsd, scripps
reaches: berkeley, ucla, brown, POMONA (topchoice), uva, stanford(?)
notsure: claremont mckenna, usc, tufts

thanks!!

Boston College, Lafayette & Penn

Why are you looking at UDel ($30K OOS) vs. a school in CT? Is UMAR the one in Mexico?

*university of maryland

i know ucberkeley and usc are all larger than 10k, and i think a few others might be too

Not entirely sure why you ask for schools with 5-10k students and yet list Pomona as your top choice. Certainly nothing wrong with Pomona, but if you’re looking for colleges of similar size in the East, consider places like Haverford, Williams, Davidson, etc.

I also think you’re being modest on your reaches. I think you are more a “match” at the UCs and a place like Wake.

Finally, have you considered either Duke or Georgetown? Both pretty fabulous places with a very good balance of work and play and strong school spirit.

yeah, pomona’s an exception for the size because of the whole consortium thing, although berkeley and usc are bigger because size isn’t one of my main factors. but i will consider duke and georgetown, thanks (:

I’d suggest that you look at Smith and Amherst (consortium) and Wellesley.

Northeastern and BU are not schools I would pick for a pretty campus. If you are looking for something in the Boston area, Wellesley, Tufts, and Brandeis (where bio is a top major) would be my suggestions. Your stats probably put you in the top 25% at Brandeis, so it could be considered fairly safe and fill that slot in your list. Perhaps the greatest advantage of Northeastern is their internship system (which I think they call something else, but my mind is blank at the moment). Is that something that particularly appeals to you?

I second the idea of Georgetown instead of GWU.
