Are these EC's good enough?

ohio_mom, thanks for that "moth-eaten GPA"! I really needed the smile today! (It's also the only thing that's likely to have caused the deferrals that made me NEED that smile in our house, so I can use the expression in my own mind at least!)

No need to worry. At any school where ECs are such an important part of the admissions decision, the admissions decision is an effective crapshoot anyway. Most of the thousands of colleges out there don't give a hoot.

Concerneddad, These are GREAT EC's. Your girls’ choice of interests are integral part of who they are and more importantly who they want to continue to be. Their EC’s connect the dots between each girl's character, personality, talent, ambition, interest and fill the community service and leadership slots as well. They can be reflected and amplified in their essays and recommendations and, if they like, separate activities resumes or packages. I think this kind of demonstrated and passionate commitment is very important to LACs.

As an aside, my sister in law is one of those people who never outgrew her teenage passion for horses. She’s now in her 60’s and happily has a thriving business raising and boarding Morgans.

A big list of activities and awards doesn't hurt, but real EC leverage is available to all students via discussing them (in essays and interviews) and displaying the passion attached, the knowledge developed and any unique perspective a student may have on one. This can be done with only one EC activity.

Momrath, and everyone else: Thank you for your posts, they really have been very helpful in putting my mind at ease that my girls are on the right track. Maybe I will have to change my screen name to ContentDad.

These girls sound like they have lots of EC's. My D, a junior in IB, is seriously into volunteer work. Nothing specific, however. She's not into sports or music either, but wants to be a physician someday. She volunteers once per week at both the hospital and an assisted living apartment building for the elderly. She does lots of other volunteer work, but it is a patchwork.
We have tried to come up with something else, maybe a little more school oriented. She wants to go to Boston College. Any ideas?
