Are these grades too low for yale?

Freshman year I got straight A's each semester (at a large, easy public school)
Sophmore year I got 2 B's, 1 B+, 4 A's each TRImester (I moved to a small, intense private school and I was not prepared for it all, hence the grades.)
Junior year I got on average, 1 B+, 6 A's each trimester.
This year I'm pretty much getting straight A's (I'm applying RD)

Will yale look down on my sophomore/junior year grades, or will they sympathize with the rigorous curriculum of my private school? By my school's weird GPA calculation system (4.33 A, 4.0 A-, 3.66 B+, etc; + 0.66 for honors classes) I have on average from grades 10-12 a 4.3 weighted, and a 4.1 unweighted. By normal 4.0 A, 3.0 B standards my unweighted is a 3.74 average.

What do you guys think?

nope. they are OK

Probably too low barring extracurriculars that Yale finds highly desirable, although I guess it depends on your class rank. Some schools have serious grade deflation and if you're still in, say, the top 5%, the grades will matter less than the rank.

^ i agree, i don't think that's too low, and if your rank is good, then you should be fine (in terms of grades at least)

Your grades are fine so long as your class rank is well within the top 10%.

Don't freak out about grades you can't change now. Work to make sure that you're senior year grades are the best they can be. Don't not apply to Yale because you think your grades are too low because you never know.

As a point of reference, I had 5 B+ on my transcript (4 of which were in Junior year, also in an intense private school) and got in EA.

Actually, for my junior/senior year grades alone I'd be in the top 10% definitely. For sophomore year, top 20%. Cumulatively, probably top 10-12%. But would my improvement into the top 10% discount for those bad sophomore year grades?

Your grades seem fine. But it's the whole package that counts - EC's, essays, recs.

Check the scattergram for your school. What's the track record of people from your school with your GPA?

Most people with my cumulative GPA are deffered.
I think, actually, if you neglect my sophomore year, then my GPA is among those that are accepted.

And of course, the GPA of rejected people is all over, but that's probably because of subpar ECs, essays, and recommendations.

So basically since I answered my own question, what I was trying to as was, does Yale look favorably upon the upward trend of my GPA?

of course yale looks favorably upon an upward trend, although they'd certainly like it better if you had A's throughout. getting your guidance counselor to write a short explanation for your soph grades in his rec would be a very good idea.

in any case, your grades aren't so low that they should prevent you from applying. give it a shot!

I'd try to not think about what already happened... stress is bad.

Stress is bad. I will tell my story but I shall be identified. Let us say this, "Will you use Yale's resources the most?' because your grades are pretty sparkling.

sparkling as in good?
and about your story -- is it about having grades similar to mine and being accepted EA? :)

as long as you are within the top 10%, you should be ok (grade wise).
