Are these safeties safe enough?

So i'm a middle upper-middle class caucasian male
4.0 uw 4.7w
got a 34 composite on my ACT
and in terms of extracurricular activities, I was the division MVP for Badminton and I am the badminton coach/teacher at a local middle school. I also teach/prepare middle schoolers for this math competition thing. I also always get leads in the school musicals and plays. And I was an intern for a couple science things.

So my safeties on my college list right now are UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and maybe University of Colorado Boulder.

Are these safeties safe enough and should I have more?

Your in at Boulder as for the UCs i’m not too familiar but I know they are pretty selective so I personally wouldn’t call them safeties but then again i don’t know a lot about UCs so I couldn’t really tell you.

What coola426 said. You might want to add one or two LAC safeties in the hopes of getting merit aid, if you would potentially need or want it. Your ACT score would make you desirable to a lot of schools outside the “top” level, and many of them are very good.

I thought they would be good as safeties just because my 34 composite score is 3 above san diego’s 75 percentile and 5 above santa barbara’s 75 percentile

Those UC’s are safeties. Not all are, but they definitely are. They aren’t “financial safeties” however. Youll get in but might not get much aid from them. Just keep it in mind.

sally305, could you give me a couple examples of some potential LAC safeties. I am not very familiar with any LACs outside the top few

“So my safeties on my college list right now are UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara,”
the UC’s, especially UCB, UCLA or UCSD , are not a safety for anyone. Are you from Calif?

Connecticut college is a good safety. If you would be fine with the east coast. Just investigate the 35-50 range on LAC’s they would be nice. Maybe Colorado college? But don’t take my word for it I’m not that familiar.

I would NOT call Conn or Colorado College safeties, even with a 34 ACT. And they are unlikely to give you merit aid. You’ll probably have to cast a broader net if you want any.

I would be happy to suggest some LAC safeties if you can offer some more information on what you are interested in. Where are you from? What parts of the country do you like/dislike? What are your (prospective) areas of academic interest? How would you describe your personality? And most important–will you be needing financial aid?

Yeah UCSD and UCSB are definitely good safeties for you. Also you can use the same app to apply to good match/reach schools like LA, Berkeley etc.
Just be sure that you can pay the $54,000.

You should also add Occidental College to LAC Safety list. I visited there and it is absolutely beautiful plus you can cross enroll with Cal Tech or do one of many duel degree programs (including one with Columbia Law School) You may also want to look at Pitzer in the Claremont Consortium which has most of the benefits of CMC/Pomona and is a lot easier get into than CMC/Pomona.

Good luck!
Chance me?

Sally305 I’m from northern california, bay area, and I plan on majoring in either physics or aeronautical engineering. As far as financial aid, I can probably afford at the max 15,000$ per year overall. As far as where I want to be, I’d like if the college were 1750 students+ and there wasn’t too much of a bubble. I like the new england region and California, and I’m good with any cold weather as long as there’s mountains around. Finally a balance of partying would be nice, not too much, not too little. Thanks for your help!
