Even though I am basically happy at my college, I think I would be happier and/or better off at another school. I have a guaranteed transfer offer to Cornell and intend on using it, but have begun considering transferring elsewhere if the transfer agreement did not work out for any reason. The issues I have with my current school are that other schools seem to have better programs for my major (e.g. higher rankings, more course offerings, etc), that other schools may suit me a bit better socially, and that I felt mislead by how my school marketed itself and how people promoted it. After spending a semester at my current school I am less impressed than I expected to be, and while I had high expectations I really do not believe they were unreasonable. I would see how the first month or so of second semester goes before deciding to transfer to a school other than Cornell because I want to keep an open mind, but my gut feeling is that my current school may not be the best fit for me. Are these valid reasons for wanting to transfer? I can elaborate on my situation or things I dislike about my school in a future post, but this is it in a nutshell.

One word of advice. Don’t rag on your current school. Be specific on your reasons for transfer and say something like they dont have the classes I want. Don’t say that you just want to go to a higher ranking school cause yours sucks.

Good luck.

Thanks-I don’t think my school sucks and I would never flat out complain about it in a transfer application (I hardly complain about it in real life to be honest), but it may not be the best fit for me. It is actually one of the two best public schools in my state, but the other school has a better program for my major, more courses, is bigger/more diverse, and is roughly the same cost as my current school.
