Are they hinting at something?

I applied to Davidson RD and I'm the child of an alum. I recently got a letter saying that they had started reading my app and they saw that I 'other members of my family are part of the "davidson family"' and that that makes my app 'especially welcome news'. They continued on to say that this would be taken into consideration.

I know some schools will send letters hinting at an acceptance.. does this sound like one of those? Or is it just standard for every legacy? Did anyone else get one?

Since there are very few Davidson students commenting on this board, I would direct this question to the message board for the Davidson College Class of 2013 Facebook group. There are several legacies posting there and I'm sure they could better answer your question (my dad = Harvard; my mom = College of Charleston)

I've applied RD, I'm the child of an alum as well, and I got one of those letters too. So it appears we're not unique.

This is interesting since the Davidson Common Dataset for the class enrolling fall 2007 indicates that Alumni/ae relation is not considered.

Sounds like a plus to me. Maybe Davidson is doing all they can to encourage enrollments (assuming that you're admitted), in light of the economic situation.

I thought about that too, standrews. That's actually what made me do a double take at the letter. It may very well just be some strategy to keep my attention while I'm waiting for a response.

I agree - my D and another runner in our league were both nominated for the Bryan Scholarship, which had to be in by early September, both were not selected as finalists, but they got nice letters from the Dean saying that he enjoyed reading some of the details in the apps. It is quite a long wait for the RDers for sure.....GOOD LUCK!!
