Should I even bother applying to UCs? I did horrible at my 4-year university and logged around 160-170 quarter credits. I've taken a 3 year hiatus and I'm now considered a non-traditional student and currently taking some courses at a CC to get my college life back on track.

The problem is my 4-year university was out of state and the tuition would be quite high if I decide to go back so I want to stay in-state (california). I've heard though that UCs flat out reject you once you've logged a certain number of credits which I am way past that. Is USC the same?

I am not sure about USC but the UC's do have caps for units for transfer if they were not earned at a CCC even if they are excellent grades. If all the units were earned at a CCC then you would be fine. My husband took too many units at a trade school before going to a CCC and even though he has a high GPA he is dealing with the issues of his units being too high and he is only 8 units over the cap. He had to meet w/ each school individually in order to see if they will still except him. There are no guarantees but most of them said he has a good chance. Some are more strict than others. My point being that although not impossible, your in for a long and difficult process. I would suggest going back to your 4-year that you left and finish out there. I know its difficult as I am also a non traditional college student but its worth it.
