Are we going to the Dance?

Nice win vs MSU. 2-0 vs. the men from Sparta is always nice, but is Michigan's 19-12 (9-9) record enough to get it into the NCAAs? I think so for three reasons:

Michigan played top 10 teams very close. Syracuse (L 50-53), Kansas (L 60-67 OT), OSU (L 64-68 and 53-62), Wisconsin (L 52-53)

Michigan started slow in Big 10 play (1-6), but finished strong (8-3)

Michigan finished in 4th place in the Big 10, and even though we are tied with 3 other teams at 4th place, we went 4-1 vs the those 3 teams.

But will that me enough, or does Michigan have to win a couple in the Big 10 Tournament?

Michigan is off the bubble according to Lunardi. Should be around a 10 seed. MSU is in his last 4 in, hopefully they get pushed all the way out.

10 seed sounds good. Perhaps a couple of wins in the Big 10 tourney can improve that a little. I would love to see what Beilein could do if he landed a couple of top 10 recruiting classes.

With the new practice facility being built and overall renovation of Crisler, I’d say Michigan is going to be a power in basketball once again. :-)

Michigan is definitely a bubble team. A 9-9 record in Big Ten play and no signature victories leaves the NIT as a real possibility absent a win against the Illini on Friday. The season sweep of MSU was sweet and in my opinion better than a 10th seed in the NCAA. I don’t know if anyone noticed the brush off handshake Izzo gave Beilein after the game today. I’d have to think MSU is also on the bubble and would be out if they didn’t have the brand name.

The future of Michigan basketball is still in doubt. All we have shown thus far is if we play well that we can compete for the middle of the Big Ten and low seed in the NCAA. Recruiting is still unproven. A new practice facility and Crisler upgrades will help but I don’t think we will compete for conference championships and top seeds unless we are able to reclaim some of the brand we gave to State during the Ed Martin scandals.

We have 0, count em, 0 seniors. Everyone’s coming back. And we’re 8-3 (should be at least 9-2) in our last 11. ESPN experts have us in for sure. The tourney looks like an almost lock provided we don’t melt down against the Illini.

yeah, we’re in barring a total embarrassment in the big ten tourney.
next year should be awesome too. we had 0 seniors this year and all of our freshman will have a year under their belt. a top 15 team is a definite possibility (and IMO, if we aren’t consistently ranked next year, it would be a disappointment of a season).

any guesses on our seed? i think we’re an 11 or 12 (w/ bye) right now. a good big ten tourney showing (say, semis) and we could be talking 8 or 9

A first round loss in the Big 10 tourney would likely land us an 11 or 12 seed. I would not mind a 12 seed. There always seems to be a Cinderalla story emering from that direction! One win in the Big 10 tourney would probably get us a 10 seed and 2 wins would probably propel us into 8 or 9 seed.

MSU is going further than Michigan in the NCAA tourney. Izzo is the best I’ve seen when it comes to coaching in this time of the year.

And if you’re wondering, yes, I am a die-hard Spartans fan that will happen to be attending Umich next fall. :-)

Better make sure admissions doesn’t find out about your strange sense of schools to support in athletics. Will you be wearing green on game day at the Big House?

“And if you’re wondering, yes, I am a die-hard Spartans fan that will happen to be attending Umich next fall.”

That shows you’re thinking with your head. You’ll get converted soon enough.

You better switch emzee. Sparty might not even get in.

Hehe! I love it. A diehard Spartan going to Michigan. Welcome home little brother! ;)

Seriously, I am no sure MSU will make it to the NCAA tournament this year. They finished the season on a weak note, losing 5 of their last 9 games. Still, when a 17-13 season with a 500 mark in conference play is considered a “down year”, you know your program is excellent. Hopwfully, YOUR school will play at that level in the future.

Well, seeing that we played arguably the toughest schedule in all of basketball, lost 2 key players, had more than half of team either injured during the off-season or during the season (if anyone is wondering why we don’t dominate on the boards this year, this is why as no one beefed up over the summer), and still managed to scrape by with atleast a .500 mark in conference play, I don’t really see why we shouldn’t be able to get in. Even though we might get an extemely low seeding, I’m expecting at least a Sweet 16 appearance. And, to clear the confusion, I will be wearing a green and white shirt to every football and basketball game. Gotta keep in touch with my roots! ;-)

you’re gonna get rousted a ****load by drunk students and drunk alumni. but if you’re into that kind of stuff, go for it

as they say… smoke green snort white, cant read cant write :D

First, you gotta stop saying “we” when talking about that school. Second, don’t come to football or basketball games.

"lost 2 key players, had more than half of team either injured during the off-season or during the season and still managed to scrape by with atleast a .500 mark in conference play "

That is in no way going to affect the committee’s decision. Why would it? It’s not like they are the ones who kicked off the two players or injured any of the others…

The toughness of schedule does matter… but it is not too much harder than UM’s. The difference is less than 10 spots. Same with RPI… the difference between State and UM’s RPI is in the area of 10-20.

“And, to clear the confusion, I will be wearing a green and white shirt to every football and basketball game. Gotta keep in touch with my roots! ;-)”

That would be ridiculous. If you love State that much, just go there.

novi, there is a difference between passion and reason! Clearly, the guy knows Michigan is a better university and wants the best degree possible. I knew many such students when I was in college. Believe it or not, they grow into becoming Michigan fans, but they will never root against MSU. I suspect the same will happen with Emzee. He will eventually root for both Michigan and MSU. And when Michigan plays MSU, he will most likely root for MSU (he will always have a soft spot for Sparty) but probably (and secretly) won’t mind if Michigan wins.
