My D is looking at private HS for Fall 2015 for 9th grade. She is an excellent student in advance PS classes, well liked by teachers and social with peers, competitive soccer and lacrosse player and some field hockey. In the winter is on swim team. She has played cello since 3rd grade. Hasn't taken SSAT yet. Excels at English, Math and Spanish.

She so far is interested in BBN, Commonwealth, Milton, Nobles, Rivers

Are there any other gems out there that we are missing?

We spoke to the BUA folks but it seemed not enough sports and not quite the right fit. But I would be interested in hearing for families who know the school.

DH and Winsor were cut by my D who didn’t like the all girls but I think we might check out Winsor this Friday. Is Winsor very competitive and a little tough social in the upper grades? Anyone have first hand knowledge?

If she’s quite sporty, I’d look at Middlesex. There are some day students. As a reverse commute, it should be within 30-45 minutes from Cambridge.

Note that she couldn’t rely on the train for Middlesex, although it’s only a couple of miles from Concord Academy.

St. Mark’s is a family favorite, as my oldest is now an alum. Google maps shows it’s 33 minutes from “Cambridge” to SMS, by the Pike. Winter might be a challenge, though.

One advantage of being a day student at a boarding school is the possibility of staying overnight if a blizzard’s approaching. Most boarding schools don’t have snow days, but if your kid’s arranged to sleep over on campus, you don’t have to worry about driving in blizzards.

My daughter goes to Winsor. Has since 6th grade. Absolutely loves it. D is currently in 9th grade and says that her class has clicked this year and become a very close community. I have talked to several parents of girls who started this year and all are very happy with how it is going socially for their D’s . Definitely check out the school this Friday. PM me if you have any questions.

Since you are willing to look at all girls, visit Dana. The boarding population offers a different feel to a day school. It is an excellent school with a lot to offer.
