I thought they were out of 5 (although it's impossible to get a 5.0 at my school)....and sent this to 4 schools already, but I read somewhere it was out of 4? Ah, I'm worried now--do I need to notify schools or something? :

I said out of 4.

Ours were always out of 5. Unweighted was out of 4, but then AP “weight” meant that the GPA could potentially be over 4 - sometimes significantly so.

I’m sort of confused…so if my school weights like this:
AP classes: 5-A, 4-B, etc.
Regular: 4-A, 3-B, etc.

then what would it be?

I thought unweighted/4.0 and weighted/5.0 logically and didn’t realize the possibility of weighted GPAs being out of 4.0 until now.

Ours weighted completely differently than that. It was something like A=4.0 and then you get a half-point “weight” of sort for AP classes…not entirely sure, but somethign along those lines. :)

Which one is it then? I’m worried because I already sent my common app to several colleges and I’m not sure if I should notify them (or if they can just get the info off of my transcript and use that).

Well, generally it varies by school, and your guidence counselor will send some sort of information about the school’s grading policies wit the transcript. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Ah, okay. So do you think it would be okay if I don’t notify the colleges? I just feel that it would be a little annoying for them b/c of such a small mistake.

If you get 5/A in an AP class but all regular classes are out of 4 it should be all out of 4. My school only weighs AP classes (not honors) and so the highest gpa’s are like 4.3. If this system is something like that it should be out of 4.0

is it better to report your weighted or unweighted GPA?

^The common app asks for weighted GPA and weighted rank when available.
