Are you all unemployed?

I’m extremely timid about going into the pharmacy field, though it’s very appealing. I’m planning on applying to both nursing and pharmd programs so I can decide which to pursue after seeing which colleges accept me and give the most financial aid. Are new grad pharmacists getting jobs? Do you regret going into this field. I’ve heard horror stories about not finding a job as a pharmacist and ending working in HR or going back to school.

Don’t count on much in the way of aid for the final 4 years of the Pharm.D. program.

You might get more responses on the Student Doctor Network website - Pharmacy forums.

@Madison85 OMG on that site they’re saying that there are absolutely no jobs in pharmacy and to not even think about going into the field.

Consider volunteering at a hospital as well as shadowing nurses or pharmacists to get a better idea of what you prefer.

Pharmacy is still considered a top field for the future. Its so obvious. Pharmacists are now required to learn and do so much more than ever and there are so many different settings besides retail that a pharmacist can work. The above is totally false. Go for it.

@Looony2nz what exactly are these other fields? I search on sites like indeed.com and i mostly see jobs in retail or hospitals but very few. @Madison85 my mom is a nurse so I have an idea of what it’s like and she doesn’t particularly like it but there’s job security.

But it’s not just the fact that there are other settings, it’s the fact that there are so many grads vying for the available jobs, no matter what the setting. So many new schools have opened up in the last few years that there is a definite glut of pharmacists in some areas. What some of the new grads will find is that there will be a job, but it might not be a guarantee of full time employment.

Two of people I know who are pharmacists are saying employment in this field has been shifted. One only works part time as in 30 hours.
