I think we should start a thread in which people that are applying post their stats and what major they would like to go into! I'll start and I guess we just just follow this format.

plenty of extracurriculars and leadership, good essay, etc.
I'm undecided about my major. Probably psychology, sociology or communications.

The biology department at NU is very good. First you'll have to suffer through Freshman general bio, which is usually offered at 8:00 am with an awful teacher. After that though, the upper-level bio courses are awesome and the teachers are good. Plus there are some bio related courses in other departments which are really great.

I'm actually a freshman at a small liberal arts school applying for transfer to Northeastern Fall '08

First semester GPA: 3.85(as biology major)
Second semester projected GPA: 3.7-4.0(as political science major)
Other info: I'm from Phila suburbs. Good amount of volunteer work/intramurals. Transferring b/c this school is not competitive enough, is too rural, and too small. NEU looks really good being more competitive, smack in the middle of Boston, big school. Also, I've heard the girls are very attractive =)

Fabregas, don't pay any attention to ZeppRock. If you've read any of the NEU threads you can see he is a very unhappy individual that likes to whine about not attending Villanova. But not to worry, he is transferring next year.

I'm applying regular
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, school doesn't weight
ACT: 33 SAT: Math 790, CR 680, Writing 730 SAT II: Lit 720, Math II 740, Bio 680
Class Rank: doesnt rank anymore but if they did 1/450 ish
Desired Major: Journalism-Print
Any Other Info: EC: newspaper, cross country, violin, volunteering, chemistry club, student senate, obama political aid, etc

RatedPG, as a current student at NEU, I am simply providing input and correcting a misconception. I have more day to day experience at NEU than you and the girls here, overall, are not that attractive.

Well I have more day to day experience at NEU than you Zepp, and I say Northeastern is about average. I have spent considerable time at some of the colleges in the area (BU, BC, MIT) and for the most part we're on par. Many of the Northeastern students come from upper-middle class towns in the MA, NJ, and NH area so they are fairly well put together in terms of style and clothing (ie not that many non-shaving, feminist preaching hippies). I suppose this can be considered a double edged sword as I have heard the complaint that NEU girls can be a little superficial. Personally I come from a pretty superficial town in NY so I really don't have much perspective on that.

One thing to consider for engineers is that Northeastern's male to female ration is about 1:1. I remember looking at schools with an 8:1 male to female ratio and being a little freaked out. I wouldn't come to Northeastern expecting an amazing banquet of beauty, but there's definitely nothing to complain about.

Oh, and I guess for perspective purposes, I am a straight, white, 20 year old male. I'm not sure if any of that was different my opinion would change, but there you go.

Exactly, nope. You say Northeastern is about average which is not "very attractive =)" as fabregas thought. I wasn't saying the girls are ugly, I was saying that overall, they are not very attractive.

From a girl's perspective, I think we're fairly average as far as attractiveness. There are girls who are very attractive and girls who aren't, but most girls fall somewhere in between. This goes for most schools though, and I wouldn't say we're less attractive than most of the other schools I've spent time visiting. Although I'm from Colorado and when I visit friends at CU-Boulder, I'm always amazed at the general attractiveness of the entire student body, there's gotta be something in the water...

The "double edged sword" is definitely true, girls here are very into their appearance and tend to be a bit shallow. That doesn't mean that everyone is like that, though. I know a very cool girl who just graduated Honors with an engineering degree, and she's now a Patriots cheerleader, of course, this isn't the norm. :)

GPA: 4.73
Rank: ~25/360 (Second 5%)
SAT: 2350 (800M, 800CR, 750W)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC, 760 US His, 780 Math IC, 750 Physics, 730 Bio
Other/Hook: Legacy to NEU
