Are you Automatically in the Business School?

If you indicated Business as a major on your application and end up being accepted to Tulane, are you automatically in the Freeman School of Business or do you have to apply during your Sophomore year? Thanks

You can start in architecture your first semester if you wanted to. My point being that this is one of the things that I think makes Tulane really great, the fact that you can pick any major in any school you want.

The way Tulane is structured is that you are accepted to Newcomb-Tulane College, which contains the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Architecture, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and of course the Freeman School of Business. It really doesn’t matter what you put on your application, you are free to pick a major that falls into any of those schools. It also means that if after a semester you decide business isn’t for you and you want to major in anthropology or Chinese, no problem. If you want to become an architect, no problem other than you will be behind in your coursework because it is such a structured program. Same with engineering. But Tulane is extremely flexible in this regard.

Long answer to your simple question that can be in the business school from Day 1, and they should assign you an adviser for the business school. I believe business majors do pick from a special set of TIDES classes, 1 hour courses designed to ease the transition to this new environment.

Fallenchemist: Thank you very much. You really provide a great service to everyone on cc. you should receive a stipend from all of the universities:)
