There’s a big discussion about this now on the NACAC (Nat’l Assoc. for College Admission Counseling) forum, with NACAC honchos promising to further explore the issue, but this sort of change moves slowly. So maybe my great-grandchildren will be able to wait until May 1 before being pressured to send a housing deposit. :>

One can only hope. It is a major problem for students seeking financial aid. They don’t have extra money to throw around on things like this.

^ exactly. Maybe they can also get on the all-colleges-can-see-who-you-sent-FAFSA-to issue as well, another one that puts financial aid applicants at a disadvantage.

I am indeed receiving pressure (from my D) to pay the deposit by May 1.
There is still one RD pending and I would like to see their FA package before making final decision. Whereas my D is pretty much decided and wanted to apply to the residential program as soon as possible. The RP application is only open to committed students although the deadline is still at least a month away. I guess I have at least a couple days to a week before giving in and pay the deposit. :)
