" but how can a gay couple even have children??! (not counting adoption) so, what’s the point?"

I know lesbians who got pregnant by using sperm banks. One such offspring of a lesbian couple said she plans to write a memoir called, “Dad came by FedEx.”

I know a gay man who plans to have a child by donating sperm to a lesbian couple. I know a lesbian couple who had their son that way.

" Why are you even comparing racial rights to gay rights??! They’re two very different things."

You – a high school student who probably has never put your body on the line for race-related civil rights – say that. Meanwhile, Bayard Rustin – a black gay man who was one of MLK’s main mentors and was the main organizer of the March on Washington said differently as I quoted earlier.

My friend John Due, 75, – a civil rights lawyer and civil rights movement veteran who also is straight – also says differently and plans to include that information in the book he’s writing: “Freedom isn’t Free.”

" but how can a gay couple even have children??! (not counting adoption) so, what’s the point?"
I’ll also add that as an adopted person I’m personally offended by this statement. Gay marriage and rights aside (my parents are straight and have a birth child as well), it is offensive to imply that adopting children is not a legitimate way to “have children.” I am no less my parents child than my brother is.

As for my two cents, gay marriage should absolutely be legal. The United States supposedly stands for “freedom and liberty for all” yet is founded on discrimination and violence against minorities (this includes gays, lesbians, trans people, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, disabled people, Muslims, Jews etc etc). It’s time for that to change.

@pinkstrawberry
Amen. it also states in the Bible that eating shellfish is an abomination. i hope non of these god-fearing posters like their clam chowder.

Come on people! What’s with all the hate?
@ those who feel strongly against gay marriage: outlawing gay marriage doesn’t stop them from marrying. there are always gonna be a group of minority who are different.

Personally I think the issue should be decided by the states. For example, lets say state A legalizes gay marriage and state B outlaws it, those who seek homosexual partners can move to state A and those who are strongly against it can move to state B. Everyone lives happily (for some time).

Okay, I was all on board about you listing your beliefs. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, I respect that; even if I do not agree. Though, this is absolutely obscured! 50% of Americans get divorced every year! This includes every religion; Christianity dogma or atheism. I know many atheists who are happily married; many Christians who are miserable in their marriage. Just because you are Christian does NOT mean you do not get divorced.

I’m starting to think you’re being sarcastic… lol.

@r0kAng3l: LOL - I linked to a Facebook group called “Gays Killed the Dinosaurs” - every single “reason” listed makes no sense and is pretty heavy-handed sarcasm! How is it that you picked out that 1 sentence but weren’t concerned when you read:
I mean c’mon kid What’s funny is other people on FB took that group seriously and emailed complaining, and their angry emails are posted and it’s hilarious! Here’s my favorite:

Hey, there are crazy people out there. That is why I catched on after I was skimming through. I do not read replies that are over 100 words, takes too much time. I skim through and that was the one I saw haha.

Hahha I didn’t read that! Wow. Maybe I should start reading what people write. I think there should be a max on here because people start to write novels.

Religion kind of shows the evil side of me. I hate it! Haha. I mean, I would not mind religion if it did not make people appear to be so ignorant. The things people say sometimes. I’m a realivist individual, and the idea that people can be so blunt to say that other religions are merely “false” is absolutely ridiculous. I’m not an atheist; I like to say that I have no preference. I accept all religions except the ones that judge others dogmatic views (e.g. Christianty). No offense, but yes many Christians make Christianity look bad.

One good thing about religion is that you can pick out bits and pieces to support your views and ignore the rest that you more than likely don’t follow.

^^Sorry to jump on the atheist bandwagon here, but as an atheist, I don’t really see how anyone can truly be religious if they just ignore parts of religion that they don’t agree with.

If we all just ignored the parts of the law we don’t agree with, we wouldn’t be able to call ourselves the “land of the free, and home of the brave” because there’d be straight up anarchy.

If we just ignored the people we don’t agree with, there wouldn’t be debate that is crucial to bettering the planet; i.e.if we ignored BP because we don’t agree with them, seagulls will go extinct.

Alright, there really is no logical basis to argue against gay marriage, and since our government is secular, you can shove any religious arguments up your ass.
IMO Let the gays do what they want.

just a note, the people that most likely get divorced that are christians usually don’t follow what christianity says.

I believe the divorce rate would be lower for Christians if wives would submit to their husbands AND husbands loved their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (most men just only hear the first part of this statement) as the bible clearly says.

Ok, I’ll bite… I’m almost always open to opposing argument but this is one issue where I believe the “other side” is completely out of line. We, as human beings, do not have a right to dictate who others should marry. I think the biggest problem people make is assuming that people are gay by choice. Who would, in their right minds, decide to be gay in a world which openly hates them? In some parts of the world, being homosexual is punishable by death. However, in such countries (I believe Saudi Arabia, Iran and some others), gays still exist. In such circumstances, who would honestly choose to be gay? The other explanation is that it isn’t a choice at all. I personally believe one is gay from birth. The difference between straight and gay individuals is that the latter group has to constantly worry about their sexuality and hide it even in some parts of the US. I’m heterosexual so why am I so passionate about this issue? Because this is about simple human rights. What if I was in their shoes? Now, I try to be a realistic person… I realize that, for some people, this is a closed issue and they are against gay marriage no matter what anyone says. However, I would suggest that people revisit this issue in their own minds and think about it for a while. What’s the point of denying a significant portion of the population a very basic right? I can’t think of any. The arguments on this thread for anti-gay marriage are honestly rediculous. My friend being gay will encourage me to become gay? Once again, you simply assume that people can simply become gay if they want. I’m not scientist but it’s not hard to realize that things don’t work that way. I think I’m being rather reasonable in my assessment but maybe to some, I sound crazy.
