Are you for or against the iraq war?

My dad is a special ops helicopter commander at the nearby rescue reserve base. Most of the men who went over there were enlisted before 9/11. They don't send new pilots. When they are not deployed most of the time they do rescues from floods, boaters, shuttle/rocket support, ect. Even for the 'relatively' short times (switching deployments between Afgan/Iraq) they did many rescues. I support him. I support the unit. I support the troops. Even if the men or women are against/for the war you wouldn't know it. It's irrelevant for their mission. They do their job and they do it well, every rescue means the difference. The deployment is dangerous (and has recently been uped in the amount of months stationed, yearly) so we can't wait till he gets his new job/ ranking- no more deployment!
I don't support the war.

The war in Iraq gives terrorists a reason to hate the US. The data shows that more terrorists appeared in Iraq after we attacked it.

Withdraw troops from Iraq immediately and hand it over to UN control. The world will respect the US a lot more because of it and other countries will probably contribute more.

What does "for the war" even actually mean? No one wants to stay in the Middle East any longer than we have to.

overall i'm against the war. i think we've done more damage than we've done good for iraq, and the reasons we went over there are absolutely ridiculous. not to say that nothing was achieved from this war, i do think we did a lot of good, namely bringing down saddam hussein. however, to be blunt, we've completely ****ed iraq over. we're wasting money and troops in a country that A) for the most part does not want us there, and B) will be in shambles no matter how long we stay. their government is weak, the people are unmotivated, and there is much corruption. the more i thought about it, i figured i support immediate troop withdrawal. all we're doing is holding back something that will happen anyway.

but then i think about how we messed up afganistan in the 70's and 80's. that charie wilson movie touches on it. basically we gave the afgans advanced weapons & training to fight off the soviets, then just dropped our stuff and left as soon as it was over. soon after the taliban took over andddd basically became the prelude to the war in afganistan which contributed to the invasion of iraq.

history repeats itself. so maybe immediate troop withdrawal isnt the best idea.

but i think the bottom line is that generally, the middle east wants us out of their buisness. we cant force our ideaologies on these countries, they have and will always resist it. and that whole "oooh america needs to make a statement" and all that is just garbage. thats the exact same reason we went into vietnam, to "contain" communism but to essentially send a message to communist states and flex our muscles. but look what that achieved.

FOR. Definitely.

Psh. Not.

This is a funny thread.

For or against, for or against, 'tis the eternal question. I'm quite positive that no one likes war, but we can't just pull everything out immediately. Or can we?

But please, support the troops. My father didn't have a choice in going over there, but he did because it was his duty. It isn't easy knowing your friends are being bombed and shot at.

Against the war since the beginning. If the world needs help, all the money that was spent (and is being spent) on this war could have been put to better use were it given to research facilities looking to solve such problems as diseases, pollution, etc.
