I am personally very happy that the writing section was added to the reasoning test. It is my best section and the only section that I can potentially reach an 800 in. (compared to my 650 CR and 560 Math)

Yes. It helps differentiate more effectively, and tests something that should be tested.

yeah. writing is my best also. its the only reason why i was able to get 2020.

No, I can write well but I take hours to finish a good essay.

hell no. i have to study more.

Well, in the past taking SAT 2 writing was pretty much mandatory for colleges, but that has now been eliminated thanks to its implementation into the SAT 1 lol.

yep, i'm definitely glad it's on there. though the section is (like any standardized test) imperfect, it at least attempts to judge writing skills--which will be valuabe in college...and hey, maybe in the process of studying for our sats we actually learn/reinforce a few useful grammar skills.

and i found it to be the easiest section for me, lol. :)

Yes, not so much the essay part, but grammar is like the easiest thing in the world for me, so when I make mistakes or don't know something I get mad because at one point it did come so naturally. It is my highest section but I sould have scored higher. But I think it's ironic I guess because for most people at least in comparisons in the precentiles, writting is the worst.

(but if i have incorrect grammar in an oline forum I could care less, ha)

I don't mind writing the essay but its the multiple choice that gets me sometimes. Well, most of the time really. God i hate writing.

No. Like SkyHigh, I take a while to finish my essays. I've won writing competitions, and my college English teacher has urged me to write for the college newspaper. I know how to write fairly well; yet I only got a 7 on my SAT essay (admittedly I was unaware that to successfully write a high-scoring essay there are certain things you do and do not do).

The timed part and the fact that your examples do not have to be truthful both combine the make the SAT essay formulaic and a terrible indicator of how well you can write in college. Many people can easily learn how to pull examples out of the air (which has no place in college writing, to put it lightly) and write a 5 paragraph essay (again, something with no place in college writing).

The skills necessary to do well on the writing section of the SAT are laughably irrelevant. I'm not saying good writers can't get good scores, or that a good score is easy, but I'm saying that as a test of college readiness, the SAT writing is terrible. At least math and reading test some semblance of reasoning skills. There is some merit to the writing multiple-choice (namely, the improving sentences and paragraphs), but not a whole lot to justify the entire section's worth.

Without this retarded section I wouldn't be retaking the SAT :/

I hate the essay, the MC isn't bad. I"m glad they changed the CR section though.

The essay's ok, but the MC is just a chingar in the madre for someone like me. There's always some idioms I don't know about or some dictions I can't identify.
So no, not glad with the writing section

i can get an easy 800
the essay is sooo easy and formulaic. SAT writing does not equal real writing :D

No. The essay doesn't really test anything, since it's so formulaic. The MC is okay, but there's always some idiomatic expression or ambiguous sentence that gets me.

No. While writing was my best score (590, lol), I feel like it is an entirely unnecessary portion of the test, when my mind should be more focused on performing well on the math and reading sections.

Unoriginal: thank you for being so honest about your scores, haha

Haha, I have nothing to hide. My scores will improve, I hope, but right now, I use my embarrassment as motivation to do better.

Definitely yes. I like writing and I know a second language, so all of the MC comes really easy to me. Plus, it's really straightforward--either a construction is correct, or it's incorrect--no "why did the author say this" kind of stuff. Easy 800 :)

you guys say writing is formulaic, so can one get a high score without using big words or stylish sentences?

Personally, now I that I've got CR down, the whole SAT seems "beatable" by studying except for the essay. I honestly have no idea how I can get a "guaranteed 12" on the essay without being pretty with my language, which is very difficult for a non-native.

so grammar is OK, essay no way :/

Yes and its also the easiest section. From like 2 weeks of prepping the rules I was able to go from an abysmal score to an 800 on the section
