Simple question. Is your prospective major/career what you really love to do, or not? If not, why?

Of course. If you can't show an honest passion and desire for what you plan to do, no great college will like you. And when I say that, I'm talking about Caltech, but hey, that's my dreamschool. And besides, how miserable would it be, even given all the money in the world, to do something you didn't care aobut?

Indeed. I changed my prospective major from CS to Physics this April just because I felt that I don't have passion about programming and working in commercial industry. I'd much rather prefer research and teaching in academia as I planned in first through third grades.
Of course, this may change many times yet.

I don't know about my career just yet because it's really hard for me to envision myself as an adult - I've been in shool my entire life; I don't know how I'll change once my daily routine is centered around working and applying rather than learning. But I definitely love my prospective major.

No, there isn't really a career aligned with what I love. I love literature, I love history, and I love writing and debating about everything. There simply aren't enough feasible careers for people like me--we can dream of becoming college professors or writers for big magazines and newspapers, but there's no actual straight-out-of-college profession for us :( I have to compromise. How I wish I had been born to love math and science! It's so simple for them.

I'm in the same boat as you. What are we history/english lovers supposed to do except teach...

Well, we can do Law.

i myself am a english/history lover and i am seriously considering a career in international law. maybe if you look further into it you might consider it as well
mallomarcookie.

I love theatre, and at first I had myself convinced I couldn't major in it becuase there are so few career options, but now I'm leaning towards a double major so that I can do theatre and something practical.

I am very interested in Psychology but I don't think I will end up a psychologist. I love acting and I love writing. Both fields complements each other and I will emphasis on these two subjects in university. Hopefully after university I can become an actress and a writer/novelist. It is very hard and both the professions I love do not always guarantee you work or money but it's what I love and I cannot picture myself doing anything else.

It's nice to hope for law, but the fact of the matter is that it's EXTREMELY difficult to get into the top law schools, and it costs about 170K to go to law school. The top 14 law schools in the nation are extremely selective, and it's dependent on your college GPA and LSAT, both of which are difficult to score high on. Outside of the top 14, selectivity and future job opportunities drop off substantially...so unless you can make it into one of those schools, expect to live a very tough life. And even if you DO make it into one of those schools, expect to have an extremely difficult path ahead of you in a firm. There is a thread about law schools on this website, search for it and you will lose your illusions.

Hmmm... I want to be a veterinarian and if all follows through, yes I will be doing what I love.

I'm not sure what catagory that would be in.... Science?

Yep--I'm going to check people's grammar and spelling all day.

<3

Lucky you....I'll tell people how to live their lives and how much to pay me

Gotta love Poli-Sci

Totally. I'm sure I can make a living doing it, and that's what all I want. I'm not too big on doing something that I don't like to do, even it it means more money.

I don't know what I want to do with my life yet. I was talking to one of my friends on the bus, and I've come to the realization that I'm good at marketing. I'm good at writing too.

^_^

Totally. <3 Neuroscience & Biochemistry.

To put it simply...yes. ^-^ I will also be pursuing other things I love as well, but of a smaller scale, such as singing, writing, and volleyball.

hard question to answer. to be honest i dont really have a passion right now. so i guess the answer is no. but it may turn into my passion once i try it out. the whole point of college for me is to discover it.

Of course...who wouldn't love making $135k straight out of undergrad? And of course, in the very little spare time I'll have, I'm going to do another thing I like doing: SLEEP.....sleep sounds good. I've always been interested in like financial markets and such, but I'm not sure if I'd like being a trader, since once trading goes electronic, you have to retrain. So I'm doing investment banking so that my job skills (i.e. pulling 5 all-nighters back to back and subsisting on coffee and the financial stuff) are somewhat adaptable....hehe.

Btw, Major: Finance, Career: Investment banking/private equity

I'm going to do what I love.

However, it'll probably mean having my hard work used as lining for pet hamster cages.

(Journalism)
