UCLA’s parents weekend is coming up on Oct 30th. Do parents attend that?
We can go, but I would like to know why parents go to this event?
Is it useful for you or your son/daughter?
I did last year, D’s first year as a transfer. We’re only an hour away by car so we went Friday and Saturday. We won’t be going this year!
We went last year because I attended UCLA myself but not an alumnus. They had great information sessions!
It’s really just a fundraising event where they try to sell you reasons to donate to the school… happens at every university. Far better to spend a quality weekend just with your kids where you get to see the campus when it’s not crowded and when it’s not caked on with superficial makeup and when you aren’t getting shoved pamphlets with a million reasons why UCLA needs money from you.
I disagree! Last year, there were just a few tables of parents trying to raise more funds and no pressure at all. UCLA had some great workshops and lectures. We attended the lecture, “The History of Everybody for the Last 13,000 Years”, a workshop on career planning, and a presentation of short films from UCLA’s vast film vault. We only picked up the pamphlets we wanted.
