Are you going to write the optional essay?

The "Anything else you'd like us to know?" essay?

im not so sure its an essay.
i think its more of a section for other things you want to mention, w/o the intent of essay form

(i dn if that made sense -- its late lol)

So that would be used to, for example, explain a bad grade?

yeah, or maybe to explain in more depth an EC, or perhaps why you chose that oh so wierd term for your fav. word lol

Not quite, as it's better to slightly touch upon it in your main essays. Just mention the incident and when it happened, and how you overcame it, but don't try to use it as an excuse too much.

You can use the optional section to write down AP scores you couldn't fit, explain about course conflicts, etc...

I never understood that belief -- if my main essay is about a parental influence or an oversea experience or something like that, how do you slip a bad grade into that essay? I just think it would be better to explain something like that in an optional section

just my thoughts, by you could be right whoamg!!

It depends - if you got a bad grade because of cancer or surgery, fine, just briefly explain that. If the reason was because of an extracurricular taking too much time or a divorce, then you'll sound whiny because many other kids are in similar situations but keep their grades up. It's important to not try to make excuses unless it's something serious. Use your judgment, but an A and no excuse is better than a C and a somewhat justified excuse. In fact, I'd guess that even if you did have cancer, the C would not count against you, but an A and no cancer would help you more. But who knows, really?

I used the "What Else" section to elaborate on my top 4 ECs and also included a picture I took with the individual I wrote about in my "who influenced you" essay.

I just used it to explain my EC's and touch on those that didn't fit in as regular ones (my indendent studies, for instance, which only show up as Independent Study on my transcript). For instance I preside over a club with a very fancy name I helped pioneer, but its not exactly self explanatory. I'd give the name, but we have a website and forums and I don't want to have an invasion.

I just used that form to include an article I had published in a major newspaper (I explained what the article was, and attached the actual article to the form).

I didn't think of using it to explain the fact that I wasn't taking a math class (other than math methods sl IB) because the Calc III class at the college didn't have enough people this semester to go through.. hmph.

And I realized the other day that I forgot to put the "Most Outstanding Musician" award I won last year :(

lol i forgot to mention my "MOST IMPROVED PLAYER" award for fencing. actually, i just didn't have the space and besides, its not too important

Isn't most improved a way of saying you started as the worst?

lol. not necessarily..

no, i started as capt. and A fencer lol. i just got better and got bumped up in rankings :)

An extracurriclar and a divorce are nowhere near on the same level.

What weapon? Cause I mean even being that good is lame if you're foil...

WHATS WRONG WITH FOILS!?!?!

lol i guess its not too hard to guess my wep now heh?

Foils are wussy weapons. But Saber is far too easy, so Foil> saber.

Not too hard to guess mine either? ;)
