Are you guys considering the Freshman Scholars Summer Program?

The chance of knocking out two classes over the summer is very tempting but I sort of have this internship with a high level public servant this summer. I'm conflicted....

i am going for freshman institute...for many reasons...
so maybe see you there ;o)

Is the purpose of the Freshman Scholars Summer Program to catch up or to get ahead?

What is the Freshman Scholars Summer Program?

that sounds interesting... can you post more info?

Yeah, we've asked about this before, but no one had any definite answers. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

From the brochure:

"Princeton University offers an extraordinary opportunity for up to 40 entering students who are committed to pursuing studies in the humanities and social sciences to participate in an intensive, seven-week program during the summer just prior to their freshman year. "

More:

Students who participate in FSI take two courses for credit from the Pton curriculum, one in a humanities discipline and one in a social science. The humanities course, which fulfills a University distribution requirement, includes a substantial writing component that will also prepare you exceptionally well for the freshman writing seminar that you will be required to take in either the fall ofr spring of your freshman year. The social ssience course, in addition to satisfying another University distrib. requirement, will acquaint you with new quantitative concepts used to gather research....

More:

Weekend activities include movies and excursions to various locations, including Philadelphia and New York City.

FSI begins July 17th and ends Sep. 2nd; right before the Outdoor Action trip

more:

The room and board charge is currently around $2,046, and will be waived for all financial aid students receiving grant assistance from Pton. You should count on bringing some spending money (around 215) about 30 a week

recipients of pton grant aid who are unable to meet their expected summer savings will have their shortfall covered by special grant funds

MORE:

For the summer of 2005, the program in the humanities and social sciences will offer English 132, Topics in American Literature

the second course will be History, US-Latin American Relations since 1945

Great. Is this program open to all Princeton freshmen? Was this information sent out to everyone or is it only by selection?

it is not available to all,it is selection only
it is more to catch up than to go ahead
it is mostly for internationals and althletes, who have no or not many AP credits
that's what i know...
there has been a post by me,like two months ago, there someone posted some links...
try google it at princeton
that's where i got info

I have NO APs. Did they send you info by snail mail Peter or did you find out everything on the Princeton Site?

i think that by now it is already set up...i don't think that you can apply for it any more...but you couldn't anyway
they contacted me thru mail and also my coach send me an e-mail about it and encouraged me to attend..but the first info i got was few months ago...
but it is because i am ED
i don't think there is much info about institute on the princeton site.
everything i know comes from mail i got and from here.
i have no idea what is the key to pick students for the institute, but i am happy that i am in ;)

sounds nice, but i guess it's to late now

Is it particularly for students stronger in the sciences, to help develop their humanities knowledge? Peterboh - are you more into sciences or humanities?

http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2000/02/21/news/223.shtml?type=printable

I think I was chosen because my high school (an inner city school with a bad reputation) does not offer a butt load of Advanced Placement courses...we have ten or eleven.....

I think this will be very good for me and if I am chosen to come I am definitely there.

to gianievve :
it is hard to say, which field i am stronger.
but it is probably science.
anyway,i don't think it matters, because they couldn't say that from my application.
i appear same in both fields.
