Are you legally committed on May 1?

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else but my search of the archives came up empty (and I’m sure we’re not the only ones in this situation)…

We’ve got an appointment to one Service Academy as well as a spot on another Service Academies’ Wait List. With May 1 rapidly approaching, we need to know what obligation is enforced when you accept an Appointment. I.e. if we say Yes, but then the other Appointment comes thru, can you rescind your decision and go to the other SA? I.e. are you only obligated to attend that SA once your arrive on IDay and take the oath?

I know this is a touchy subject, but we need some factual answers, so any offical help out there would be welcome.

i'm assuming you've called admissions at both places and asked them? My guess is that you can accept the other if it comes through. While you are officially enrolling when you send in the paperwork, i know that people can leave pretty easily during basic, and some ppl don't even show up. i am not sure how they handle the people who don't show up, but i'm sure if you called before i day and explained the situation, they would let you change. you could also have the academy that you were wait listed for call the other one and let them work it out.

so i would call admissions. And you don't owe anything back until you sign the dotted line your first day of classes 2 dig year

Keep in mind they don't want you coming if you don't want to be here. They keep offering appointments to wait list people as others deny their appointments.
